Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self...

This week we take a look at various forms of communication... whether with ourselves, other humans (present or passed on), plants, and our dreams' communications with us... as well as the "dos and don'ts" of good communication.

We start with "Digital Distraction and Depression: The 21st Century Scourges" which focuses on the new types of "communication" which can be more of a human disconnection, and consequently can lead to depression. Amit Goswami and his co-authors share their reflections on the new digital mode of interaction.

We now have ever-expanding ways to distract and consume attention through the new digital opiate of the masses. Cell phones with their applications have unknowingly addicted people. Our attention span has drastically shortened. The constant electrical bombardment...

We would be well served to get back to communicating with live energy and entities... and this is not only with humans, but includes the plants around us, whether we consider them "good" plants or "weeds". Fay Johnstone shares a method of communicating with the plants in your life, whether indoor or outdoor plants, whether cultivated or wild.

Have You Talked to the Weeds in Your Garden Lately?

And of course, one area of our life where we may deeply feel the lack of connection and communication is with loved ones who have passed on to the other side of the veil. However, Matthew McKay shares his personal experience with his son Jordan who has been communicating with his father for many years from the "other side". Matthew gives us hope and insight on how we too can connect and communicate with loved ones who are no longer in the physical realm.

When my boy died, I had no belief that the dead could talk to us. At best, they seemed gone in another world, separated by loss and the deafening thunder of our grief. But then Jordan started speaking to me...

Dreams are another form of communication. They are a way for our subconscious, as well as "the Universe at large", to communicate with us. Serge Kahili King presents some ways of interpreting dreams, and also gives us guidance on discovering our own meaning and messages from our dreams.

Is There a Right Way of Interpreting Dreams?

Serge Kahili King, author of Dreaming Techniques

When you give others the authority to interpret your dreams, you are buying in to their beliefs, expectations, biases, and prejudices, instead of yours. What they may say about your dreams might or might not be useful, but it can never be as good as what you yourself might think, because, after all, they are your dreams, not theirs.

To create better communication, we may need to return to the basics. Jude Bijou shares four communication rules and four communication violations. These simple rules can help us establish open and loving relationships with everyone we interact with and can be applied to all the forms and types of communication referred to in the above articles.  In all instances, good communication leads to good relationships, and thus to inner peace.

The Four Communication Rules and Violations, with an Emphasis on Listening
I've found all good communication boils down to just four simple rules. Whether it's with our spouse, kids, neighbors, or our boss, mastering these concepts will have us communicating with anyone about any topic, effectively and lovingly. There are also four main violations that create misunderstandings and fall-out (as well as hurt and anxiety).

There is always some support from the planetary forces to assist us in our weekly journey. This week, Pam Younghans quotes from astrologer John Sandbach to provide further guidance for the week:

"The power of nature is all around us and within us, and even though we may not experience it directly, we have the potential of tuning into it psychically and deriving immense knowledge and support from it... By letting go of desires and agendas, one can find the whole world ready and waiting to assist one’s spiritual growth."

Horoscope Week: July 19 - 25, 2021
This weekly column (updated every Sunday afternoon) is based on planetary influences, and offers perspectives and insights to assist you in making the best use of current energies... It can also be highly beneficial to reread the past week's astrological journal as it gives a hindsight view of the events that took place and may provide many "ah-ha" insights.

As the full moon approaches, we may need to monitor our thoughts and actions before we translate them into words. Energies may run high, as they usually do with a full moon, and it's important to monitor our words so that they come out truthfully but with love and compassion. It is always a good idea to pause before answering with a pointed rebuttal. Patience is of utmost importance and so is "walking a mile" in the other person's shoes.

When we strive to understand the perspective of others, we can best relate to them and communicate from the heart, rather than from judgment, anger, and fear.

Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, health-full, and loving week.
