The times they are a'changin... was a song written by Bob Dylan in 1963. Dylan recalled writing the song as a deliberate attempt to create an anthem of change for the moment. And what was that moment? As he said in an interview, "The civil rights movement and the folk music movement were pretty close for a while and allied together at that time."
And since life goes in cycles, here we are 55 years later... and, yes the times they are still a-changin... However, now, many of us are realizing that we must change ourselves first in order to make a difference in the outside world. The dishonesty we see in the world must be eradicated from within. We must address the many ways we hide the truth of who we are, or who we think we are, from ourselves and from others. The greed we see is a reflection of our fear of poverty and loss, and our fear of not "being enough" as well as not "having enough". The lack of empathy also needs to be addressed within ourselves, as we realize that we also lack empathy with ourselves and with those we disagree with.
Benjamin Franklin wrote, in 1789 in a letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy, "...in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes". However, I would disagree and say that the only thing we can be certain of is change. Nothing remains the same, ever. Everything changes... so yes, the times they are a-changin... and we can all participate in making the change be the one we wish to see in the world, by first developing the caring, love, empathy, equality, fairness, respect, in our own hearts for ourselves and for those around us, and then help spread that throughout the world.
This week, we start by setting an astrological eye on "Relationships and Revelation: Reflection and Realignment" and we are reminded that when one door closes, another opens, in "The Best Rejection: A New Path, A New Direction, and The Real You". There are times that we may not know how to interpret what is going on in our life, and that's when we can get guidance via "The Psychology of Dreams: Dreams Come Knocking At The Door Of Consciousness".
There are many ways to connect with our true self and with the true self of others. One is through "The Joy of Service". Another tool is "Reflexology for Emotional, Physical, and Spiritual Well-Being for Adults as well as Children". And even martial arts presents is with a way of "Going From Conflict to Resolution by Using Aikido Principles to Resolve Conflict".
And through it all, we are reminded that we are the ones who are "a'changin", and as we change so does the world around us. And, that is important to be aware of in the realm of the democratic process, and we are reminded of this in "The Un-united States Of America and A Way Forward", written by InnerSelf co-publisher, Robert Jennings.
May we all be inspired to "be the change we want to see in the world" (quote attributed to Gandhi so many years ago). However, here is what Gandhi actually said:
"“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” – Mahatma Gandhi"
