InnerSelf Newsletter: December 6th, 2015

December 6th, 2015

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your Inner Self.

December is here! Some look forward to this month with unabashed pleasure and expectation. They love the thought of snow, of Christmas holidays, and celebrating the holidays and the end of the year with family and friends.

For many others this time is a blend of joy and stress, and perhaps some fearful expectations of spiraling down into depression, anger, and resentment. Many return to their childhood home, or visit with siblings, and thus revisit old habits, patterns, family dysfunctions, etc. And while we may head out with good intentions and hope that "things have changed", at times we find ourselves falling back in the rut of old patterns.

This week, our authors bring you insights, perspective, and suggestions to help you transit through December. Alan Cohen reflects on Why the Holidays Don’t Matter...  and Barbara Berger has wonderful suggestions as to What To Do When You Love Your Family But Dread Family Get-Togethers.

Now of course, it's not all about challenges when the holidays arrive. Yet, that's where we need support. When all is going wonderfully, then you've "got it covered". But when things get stressful, then perhaps Barry Vissell's insights (‘I’m Not Good Enough’ Meets ‘I Have to Take Care of Everyone’) will help you weave through the challenges of personal relationships. And as always, the astrological insights of Sarah Varcas (Within the Web of Awakening: December 2015) can help us understand what is going on behind the scenes.

Within the Web of Awakening: December 2015

Written by Sarah Varcas.

Within the Web of AwakeningDecember begins, fittingly perhaps, with reflection and blasts from the past, reminding us that we don’t leave our former selves behind as we change and grow, but instead better assimilate them into the fuller, more authentic and effective self that arises out of deep enquiry.

‘I’m Not Good Enough’ Meets ‘I Have to Take Care of Everyone’

Written by Barry Vissell.

‘I’m not Good Enough’ Meets ‘I Have to Take Care of Everyone’”These two core issues (or negative messages from childhood) often meet and interact with one another, sometimes in disastrous ways. Usually the carriers of these issues are more or less unaware of them.

Why the Holidays Don’t Matter...

Written by Alan Cohen.

Why the Holidays Don't MatterI would like to suggest that the holidays don’t really matter and there is nothing you really need to do about them. Such a suggestion, of course, reads like heresy. The holidays, while fun and significant, drive lots of people crazy. There are pressures to...

What To Do When You Love Your Family But Dread Family Get-Togethers

Written by Barbara Berger.

Meeting the FamilyMany people dread family get-togethers even if they really do love each other. We see this happening often – maybe you’ve even had this experience yourself and wonder why it’s so difficult. You really do love these people after all.
