InnerSelf's Daily Inspiration

January 2, 2024

The focus for today is:

I choose to spend time connecting with friends.

Today's inspiration was written by Eileen Reynolds:

Revelations about how social media platforms are designed to be addictive, and have been shown to negatively affect self-esteem, especially in adolescents, only underscore the urgent need to unplug.

Wendy Suzuki, a professor of neural science at New York University, says: “There are a bunch of smart people preying on us by analyzing what we click on and what will make us keep clicking, whether that’s Instagram clothes or Instagram bodies or Instagram items that you don’t have but want to have.”

She recommends replacing the time you would spend scrolling with time connecting with friends or, if you must be on social media, only engaging with content that genuinely makes you feel good.

Today's inspiration was adapted from the article:
How to Turn Your Anxiety Into a Super-Power
     Written by Eileen Reynolds.

This is Marie T. Russell, co-publisher of, wishing you connecting with friends (today and every day)

Comment from Marie:
In this age of "Likes", "Friends" you don't even know, tweets and retweets, and mini-instant forms of communication, the human in-person presence is often lost. Today, and everyday, take the time to connect personally with friends... not just through a 3 second text, but deeply through personal and caring communication.

Our focus for today: I choose to spend time connecting with friends.

Heartfulness means so much more than sentimentality or schmaltz. The heart chakra in yoga is the spiritual center of the body, with three chakras above and three below. It is the balance point between lower body and higher body, or between body and spirit. To dwell in your heart is therefore to be in balance, to integrate the lower three chakras with the higher three.
