InnerSelf.com welcomes your inner Self.
The new issue focuses on personal responsibility, and interestingly enough yesterday while I was at my local farmers' market, I overheard someone saying that they personally did not want to have to assume responsibility for anything in their own life. What??? That's almost like saying you don't want to have to breathe... OK, well while you may not want to, your only other alternative to that choice is death. So, the same with our life.
While a person might not want to take responsibility, after all that is a very "grown-up adult" thing to do, we don't have a choice. We are responsible for our lives, whether we want to be or not.Whether we want to acknowledge it or not. Of course, it's easier to just blame everything in our life on "others": our parents, our education, our government, society, our boss, our co-workers, our mate, our children, etc. etc.
But, we are not powerless!!! If we take on the role of victim, it's still a choice that we make... to accept to be a victim. We don't have to. We can look at our life, and the world around us, and say (quoted from one of my favorite movies, Network) "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!" (see clip here)
We are not victims - at least we don't have to be. Don't like what's going on in your life? in the world? OK, that's step one, acknowledging you don't like what's going on. Next step, ask yourself what you can do about it. And listen to your inner guidance, your inner voice. It will guide you.
What you can do may be monumental, or it may be just a small action, but just as numerous drops of water form a whole ocean, numerous actions taken by each one of us will form a huge tide that can change the whole direction that the world has been going in. Don't sit and complain. Get mad as hell and see what you can do about it.
Let's all stop just complaining and start taking responsibility and ask ourselves, "What can I do to make a difference?" I guarantee you there is something. Each one of us has a role to play in this huge drama of life on earth. If you've been waiting in the wings not sure when to enter front stage, the time is now. Go for it! Choose to make things better. Don't give up and just assume nothing can be done. Everything can be healed!
Things can change! It's up to us to make it happen, one by one, day by day. Don't just throw it all away -- see how you can help fix it! And whatever we choose to do, we must remember to do it with Love in our heart and as our motivation. Doing things from hatred or anger only throws oil on the fire of hatred and discord. Let's make Love our guiding principle and see where it leads us... a better world for sure, even if just in your immediate neighborhood. Love is contagious -- it will spread from there. (Beware though, because hatred and anger is also contagious. So choose wisely which you are spreading in the world.)
