COSMIC MESSENGER: As the Moon gradually waxes this week. leading up to the Full Moon on July 13, Comet K2 (PanSTARRS) is also nearing its closest pass of the Earth, set to occur on July 14. Comets are messengers from the far reaches of the universe, and when they are close enough to Earth to be visible in the sky, it indicates a time when new information is being integrated into our consciousness.

Here are insights from three different sources about the meanings of comets:

From the Well and Good website: "Comets are made up of ice, dust, and gasses. Symbolically, we might say they represent our frozen emotions and collective fears, surfacing for us to see and heal. Anything we have been ignoring or suppressing can no longer be ignored. To the ancients, a comet represented change, like an eclipse."

From Patricia Cota-Robles: "Comets are celestial bodies that pass through the Universe and literally shake the Ethers, breaking down the obsolete crystallized patterns and thoughtforms that no longer serve the highest good. In their wake, Comets leave a fluid field of unmanifest Divine Potential upon which new patterns and archetypes for the evolution of all Lifeforms can be encoded."

From Hinduism: "Comets signify a disruption in the order and regularity of the world. According to some texts, a comet portends the death of an important person."

When Comet K2 was discovered in 2017 (using the Pan-STARRS survey instrument in Hawaii), astronomers reported that it was the farthermost active inbound comet they'd ever seen. Comets are mostly rock and ice and usually become active when they are warmed by the Sun. But Comet K2 was already active in 2017, when it was between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus and thus very far away from the Sun.

The energies of Comet K2 will be strongly woven into the impact of next week's Full Moon. This is already a highly significant event due to the Moon being conjunct Pluto, square Eris, sextile Neptune, and trine Uranus and the North Node at the time of the lunation. More on this in next week's Journal!

DAILY ASPECTS: Here is my list of the important planetary aspects that are occurring this week, along with my brief interpretations of each:

Monday
Mars enters Taurus: Mars will transit Taurus from July 4 to August 20. During these weeks, our actions are guided by the tortoise, as in "slow and steady wins the race." We are motivated by a need for security and comfort. If we do become angry, it may be expressed primarily in stubborn resistance or quiet brooding.
Mercury enters Cancer, Mercury sextile Mars: Mercury will be in Cancer for about four weeks, until it enters Leo on August 4. During this time, our emotions have a strong effect on our thoughts and words. With Mercury sextile Mars today, this is a good time for communicating with empathy but also with directness.

Tuesday
Venus semisquare Mars: This minor aspect indicates a conflict between the need to connect and the desire for autonomy.

Wednesday
Venus sextile Chiron: This subtle influence provides an opportunity to do some personal healing in the area of relationships.
Mercury semisquare Uranus: While this minor influence can indicate an openness to new insights, it can also be challenging to communicate our thoughts with clarity, as the mind can be scattered and the right words may be elusive.

Thursday
No major aspects are exact today.

Friday
Sun square Chiron: Some people may be more sensitive than usual today, easily going into "fight or flight" mode due to taking things personally.
Mercury square Jupiter: The urge to share what we are feeling and thinking is very strong, but we may not be as tactful as we would like.

Saturday
Mercury sesquiquadrate Saturn: If we misspoke yesterday, when Mercury squared Jupiter, we may see the fallout today. Conversations can be either serious or accusatory, and it may be hard to rebuild broken trust.

Sunday
Sun sextile Uranus: This aspect encourages us to try something new today, or to be more fully authentic in some area of our lives.
Saturn quincunx Ceres: Our need for independence may not sit well with family members if their need for security feels somehow threatened.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This is a year to try something new, based in a knowing of what is most fulfilling to you. It is not necessary to make a long-term commitment to any one enterprise; rather, it is good to experiment with several options, as you are in a process discovering what you truly want and need. It is also important this year to take time for self-care, which can be hard for Cancer natives who are used to caring more about others' needs than about their own. If you are not feeling supported by the people in your life, this is an opportunity to express love and understanding for the part of you that perhaps has never felt it was OK to have personal needs. (Solar Return Sun sextile Uranus, square Chiron)
