WE ARE ENTERING a profoundly creative period. Tonight's New Moon in Scorpio opposes Uranus, the bringer of insights and inspirations. This involvement of the planet Uranus, which on a transpersonal level represents the Higher Mind, supports heightened intuitive awareness in the week ahead, and throughout the entire four-week lunar cycle.

To take best advantage of this visionary influence, we will need to be flexible and willing to release attachments to old forms and values. While these previous manifestations may have served us well, they are now limiting us in some way, and it is time to let them go. It is also time to clear away any residual emotional debris–fear, resentment, or anger–that is keeping us from being open to new perspectives.

Synchronistically, I've just finished listening to a presentation by astrologer Mark Jones (part of an event offered this weekend by Astrology University), and he used a quote from Dan Stevens that is absolutely perfect for this week:

"The comfort zone is the great enemy to creativity; moving beyond it necessitates intuition, which in turn configures new perspectives and conquers fears."

REINFORCING the inspired potentials of this lunar cycle is the close alignment of Mercury (ideas), Venus (values and aesthetics), and the asteroid Pallas Athene (wisdom) at the time of the New Moon. This trio in Scorpio enhances our ability to perceive what once was hidden, to discover new truths that enrich and transform our lives in a lasting way.

With this alignment, words can have great power. Speech makers are especially charismatic, with the ability to sway public opinion. And, with Venus and Pallas Athene involved, it may be that a woman's voice will have special impact in the coming month.

THE EFFECTS of this alignment on our consciousness are heightened because Mercury–ruler of the rational mind–is virtually at a standstill in Scorpio this week. The Messenger planet exactly conjoins Venus at 27°36? on Wednesday, turns retrograde on Thursday at 27°38?, and then has its rendezvous with Pallas Athene on Saturday at 27°25?.

I'm also intrigued to see that the fixed star Phi-1 Lupi, a "Wild Beast star," is at this same 28th degree of Scorpio. According to The Magic of the Stars by Roderick Kidston:

"With Phi-1 Lupi, there's a tendency to tilt at the status quo, to be a rebel or full-on revolutionary. This is an active, purposeful, dynamic star. It makes things happen. With this star, you go in boots and all, with little concern for consequences."

The words "rebel" and "revolutionary" are terms often associated with the planet Uranus, which we already see strongly involved in the new lunar cycle. It appears we will be either experiencing for ourselves or observing in others the Maverick archetype in the days ahead.

In explaining the influence of Phi-1 Lupi, Mr. Kidston uses the example of George Washington; this Revolutionary War general and first president of the newborn United States had the warrior planet Mars aligned with the fixed star. Washington, of course, did not act alone, but he certainly wore boots and was a "full-on revolutionary," playing a significant role in "making things happen."

OUR PERSPECTIVE on relationships shifts as we wrap up the week, with Venus entering Sagittarius on Friday. After three-plus weeks of the goddess of Love traversing the emotional depths of Scorpio, we're ready to lighten up, and laugh about what may have recently felt was deeply important.

A minor Venus-Saturn aspect Friday night reins us in just a bit, reminding us that we still need to be considerate of others, and to be aware that not everyone is ready to see the humor in recent events. But if any feathers get ruffled, Sunday's Venus-Chiron trine can help heal any wounds that may have been inflicted or exposed.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: You are more restless than usual this year, feeling the urge to make profound personal changes in your life. This is the continuation of a process of individuation that you last worked with in 1996-97. The planet Uranus is now asking you to take the next step in recreating your life so that you can be even more authentic and true to yourself. This is a time when others may perceive you as being selfish in your actions, but it is an important time for you to know your own heart, and to live according to your personal truth, even if your path diverges from the one that you or loved ones expected you would take. “Best be yourself, imperial, plain, and true.” - Robert Browning ?(Solar Return Sun semisquare Ceres, opposite Uranus)
