Healing Journey Steps: Unlocking Your True Potential

by Paris Stephenson.

Healing is a big part of our lives. I believe that it’s one of the main reasons why we come to Planet Earth and choose to experience being in a human body. We get to feel what it’s like to have many different levels of emotions, with highs, lows, and all that falls in between, all of which we need to know so that we can know life. With this knowing comes spiritual growth.

The majority of us are carrying some form of trauma, either from past lives or from our childhood. These wounds are what we seek to heal, both consciously and unconsciously.

The Process of Self-Healing

Self-healing refers to the process of recovery. This process is usually inspired by our own instinct and requires some self-motivation, but it can come about when we begin to notice that our own patterns are no longer serving our best interest.

That instinct or gut feeling we have is a trusted source of guidance, which is telling us that change is needed. This is the first step in healing – acknowledging that something needs to change.

We then go through circles or patterns until change is made for our highest good. This can take months, years, our entire lifetime – or even two or three lifetimes, depending on how we apply ourselves and are able to adjust to the change.

That being said, change is always certain as it is a natural part of life. What we are challenged with is trying either consciously or subconsciously to reach higher levels of soul growth. Sometimes life will push us to do this.

So, sometimes change is forced upon us, meaning that we may not even know or expect that it is coming. Then, what we experience is there to give us a wake-up call or to shift us in a different direction.

Relationships as Teachers

The people we meet, especially those with whom we form close relationships, tend to have a major impact on our lives and play a big part in our development. From the moment we are born, relationships start to be made, from the midwife that delivered us, to our friends, family, teachers, and everyone else in the equation – even someone that we meet at a bus stop and talk to for ten minutes before the bus arrives.

All these people play a unique part in our story. For the most part, we understand what the roles of these people are, such as our family, the doctor at the surgery, or our teacher at school. But the person at the bus stop – what about them?

What they have to share with us may somehow facilitate us along our journey in some way, or lift our mood even if it’s just for a short while. Or vice versa – we may have a tiny part to play in their lives without knowing it. We are all working together, giving or taking from one another, sharing our experiences, and all of it carries meaning.

Romantic Relationships and Growth

The close romantic relationships we make, regardless of the title – a partner, husband, wife, fling, long distance, or open relationship – are on our path for a very good reason. Through these relationships, we and the other person can experience all the emotions that come with them and then go through a process of healing, either physically, emotionally, or both.

Sometimes we heal together as a couple, and other times it’s on our own. This all encourages us to reach a place of unconditional love, kindness, forgiveness, and compassion for ourselves and others. This in turn leads to the higher levels of self-awareness and growth that we come into this life to experience. If the lesson is not learned in any given situation, then the process is repeated with a different partner.

Earth as a School for Growth

These challenges act as our teacher. We are the student, and Planet Earth is our school. No matter what age we are, there is always room for growth.

If we didn’t require any growth, we would not be having a human experience in the first place, and we would already have reached a place of higher consciousness and unconditional love for ourselves and for all human beings alike.

That being said, some souls on Earth have reached a place of enlightenment and are here as helpers or healers, serving others who really need it. They could be your friend, mentor, or a complete stranger whom you encounter for a short period of time.

These souls are aware of who they are, and in helping others they feel extremely satisfied, even if it means they get nothing in return. Being a supporter or healer in itself gives them much pleasure. While helping people who need it most, these souls tend to have jobs where they blend into society, getting by on minimal necessities, and requiring no credit for their work or for the support they give out freely and willingly.

Life’s Challenges and Perception

The majority of us, however, need all the experience we can get, both positive and negative. In fact, experiences are neither good nor bad – it’s only a matter of how we choose to categorize them.

This is mainly due to the many years of Earth programming we have received. Often, being told that something or someone is bad for us, we often accept this and carry negative feelings towards them or a situation, when really everything is there to help us get to higher levels of understanding of ourselves and others.

All of our experiences are there to help us reach our highest purpose – especially the ones we may perceive as negative or unfair. We have these challenges so that we can have appreciation and gratitude for what we already have in our lives. Challenges push us to further levels of development, showing us who we and others truly are – beings of love and light, our true nature. This is who we all are at a soul level.

The lows we go through are there to make us question our situation and find how best to deal with it so we can reach a solution. Eventually our pain triggers us into taking the required action, thus healing ourselves in one way or another.

Nurturing Unconditional Love and Forgiveness

When we take responsibility for our healing, we are taking responsibility to support a part of the divine creation. This in turn creates a ripple effect that allows us to start supporting and helping others with their own healing.

This again offers more healing for ourselves, and now we are creating a pleasant cycle, because supporting others to heal once we have healed ourselves offers a deeper level of heart cleansing.

True healing can only happen through unconditional love and forgiveness for ourselves and for others, and this needs to be continually nurtured throughout our lifetime.

We gain mental clarity from seeing how the challenges we face actively shape us and are the best source of growth. Although in the moment they may feel extremely painful, that pain will not last forever because life is always changing, and so are our feelings.

Any pain we are experiencing is all a part of the transformation process.

Meditation: A Path to Healing

The ancient art of stilling your mind aids in healing the body, mind, and spirit, and so helps develop creativity and self-awareness.

Meditation has proven value in everyday life and is known to improve an individual’s mental and emotional health. Meditation is not related to any religious system and involves more than becoming spiritually enlightened, vital though that is.

Before beginning a meditation, though, it’s important to set an intention each time. This way, you are letting yourself and the universe know what you wish to achieve. It can be as simple as, ‘I would like to open my heart to more love.’ You can state your intention either out loud or in your mind.

Tips for Meditation

If you are new to meditation, setting an alarm can be a good idea so you don’t need to focus your attention on the time.

Find a comfortable space where you will not be disturbed, and enjoy some peace and quiet. However, you can also choose to meditate where and how you like – on the train or bus, if you have five spare minutes at work, or while waiting in a queue.

You can even meditate while walking, gardening, or cooking – whatever works for you. It’s important that you develop some peace of mind and mental space.
