Marie T. Russell's Daily Inspiration

The focus for today is:  I treat myself with respect.

People often confuse a strong ego with high self-esteem. However, one does not necessarily lead to the other. An over-inflated image of self. leads the ego to project that whatever they do is OK, even though it can violate another person's space.

Doug Thorburn, author of "Drunks, Drugs, and Debits" writes the following: "Acknowledging one's flaws, admitting one's wrongs and paying amends to others in truly penitent fashion require ego deflation. Taking responsibility for one's behaviors, living consistently with one's values and core needs, while getting (and staying) honest, begins the process for the restoration of self-esteem."

To free ourselves of the negative ego's grasp, we must build up our self-esteem based on truths, not delusions. It requires looking deep within ourselves, acknowledging our flaws and our good points, and putting our good character traits in the forefront of our behavioral choices. And accepting and respecting the totality of who we are.

This is Marie T. Russell, publisher of InnerSelf.com, wishing you a day of accentuating your positive character traits (today and every day)

Join me again tomorrow for my Daily Inspiration and focus of the day.
