ALTHOUGH we may think all has been revealed, there are surprises ahead this week. Unexpected discoveries or announcements are likely, courtesy of an ongoing aspect between Mercury, the Messenger, and Uranus, the Rebel.

If you've read through the "Aspects of Note This Week" list at the start of today's Journal, you may wonder if you're seeing double, or if perhaps yours truly has made a mistake (it wouldn't be the first time!).

But no, it's not a scribe's error this time. Mercury does indeed form a semisquare aspect with Uranus on Thursday and again on Friday. This is possible because Mercury stations direct on Thursday. Here's how it works:

IMAGINE MERCURY as a zippy little sports car that has stopped for a red light. Uranus is a slow-moving semi truck coming up from behind. The light turns green as Uranus approaches, so the big truck keeps moving forward, passing by Mercury. A moment later, the sports car shifts out of neutral and into first gear, and soon passes by slower-moving Uranus.

Mercury is basically at a standstill early Thursday, while Uranus is moving forward. At 4:38 a.m. PDT, they make contact. Mercury goes direct at 6:58 a.m., and starts to move forward very slowly. Before long, however, Mercury is moving faster than Uranus. At 12:49 p.m. on Friday, the two planets again make contact, after which Mercury gradually picks up the pace and doesn't look back.

BUT THE EFFECTS of this disruptive aspect are not confined to Thursday and Friday. Because the two planets are both moving so slowly, and because an aspect is in effect for a while before and after it is exact by degree, this influence is quite long lasting. Using only a one-degree orb, the semisquare effects start today -- Sunday, March 24 -- and lasts through Tuesday, April 2.

This gives us an extended time of uncertainty and questioning, especially with Mercury in indecisive Pisces. We may not know who or what to believe, as information coming in is contradictory. Our thinking is likely to be scattered, it will be easy to lose our focus on what we are doing, and we may start more sentences than we finish. The nervous system could easily become frazzled, and we'll become frustrated if we count too much on things going according to plan.

We might ask the planets, what is the purpose of this, cosmically speaking? Why keep us in this state of heightened nervous energy for more than a week?

HIDDEN beneath what can appear to be negative effects, there is always a positive intention waiting to be found. In this situation, whenever Mercury and Uranus interact -- even in "hard" aspect -- there are opportunities for insights, new visions, new ideas.

Mercury represents the conscious, rational mind, while Uranus symbolizes the Higher Mind, and higher consciousness. The semisquare aspect indicates that there is higher-level information trying to reach us, that our conscious minds would normally tend to block. Thus, we have to frazzle a bit, unwind our normal mental state, so that we are more available to the insights.

THROUGHOUT this week, we will benefit by being especially flexible in our thinking, and in our perceptions of reality. We need to be patient with ourselves and others, and with our natural tendency to want the world to make sense according to what we have always thought, or been taught. This is the time to expand beyond limited thinking, to allow new synapses to form in our brains.

And, we want to be especially mindful of self-care. Drink more water, ground yourself more often, remember to pause several times throughout the day and take three slow, deep breaths -- in and out, in and out. Be aware that you'll be more tired than usual, since your electrical circuits are constantly being fired, and can easily become fried. Limit your exposure to electromagnetic radiation, which even in low doses affects our brain waves. Set down the cell phone, step away from the computer, turn off the TV.

Give yourself the gift we seem to rarely accept these days: Take a few minutes to simply sit in the silence and gaze at clouds, watch a sunset, or observe how the breeze gently stirs the leaves on the tree. Uranus in Taurus will honor your efforts to connect with Nature, and Mercury in Pisces will appreciate your moving into a state of mental rest. In return, the two may very well reward you with the insights you've been longing to receive.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: Use this year to stabilize your life, to take some concrete steps to create the forms that will support you in tangible ways. This may involve a bit of slowing down from the natural Aries tendency for fast movement -- as the Hare, you may want to take some lessons from the Tortoise this year. In 2020, when Chiron aligns with your Sun and you need to focus on your personal healing, you will be grateful for the time you devoted in 2019 to securing your foundation.
