How The Law Of Cause And Effect Is Unwavering In Its Expression

All things in existence have a cause. Everything in the universe was caused by something else. Whether it is a wave in the ocean, a wind between the leaves of an oak, or the thought in a little boy's mind, all things are the effects of another cause. Every cause has an effect, and every effect will be the cause of something else. An apple, for example, is the effect of a fruiting tree. The tree is the effect of a germinated seed, whose cause was another apple. The cycle of cause and effect is infinite and eternal and is the fundamental principle upon which everything in the universe functions... including healing.

Throughout the ages, our great spiritual and philosophical masters have taught us that if there is a certain effect you desire, there are certain causes that must be initiated to manifest that desire. If you wish an apple tree, you must plant an apple seed. If you wish to win the love of another, you must express your love to them. If you wish to create something new, you must first create the idea in your mind.

All things have a cause. If you know what you wish to create, and you know its cause, all you must do is put that cause into action and the effect of your desire is guaranteed... including optimum health and well-being.

No matter what it is you wish to manifest in your life, there are three basic causes in this universe -- thoughts, words, and actions. Everything in existence was at one time an idea. Look at the book you are reading. Look at the chair in which you sit. Look at the hand that holds the book. All of these things were at one time an idea in someone's mind. This book had to be conceived, then typed, and finally, printed on paper. The chair needed to be designed and crafted in wood. Your hand is the result of the loving union of a man and woman who, together, decided to have a child. All things in the universe were once a thought, brought into reality through vibration and motion... word and action.

If all things have a cause, then what is the cause of thought? What is the cause of an idea? The cause of all thoughts and ideas is intention. It is through intention that we think about what we wish to create. Through this thought we might express our ideas into written words and take the appropriate actions.

The cause of intention is Desire. What is the cause of desire? As Wallace Wattles says in the 1902 classic, The Science of Getting Rich, "All desire is either possibility seeking expression or function seeking performance."

We may then ask, "What is the cause of possibility and function?" The search for ultimate cause has intrigued the human mind throughout our existence and drives all spiritual practice and scientific investigation. I prefer to believe that there is an ultimate intelligence from which all possibility, function, desire, and intention arise, and it is from this intention that all things in the universe manifest. You might call this God. You might call this the Unified Field of energy and matter. You may call it Universal Intelligence, Hunab Ku, Tao, Brahma, or Allah. It doesn't matter what you call it, or if you call it at all, there must be a primary cause (unless, of course, there isn't.)

Although the expression of thought through words and actions does speed up the manifestation process, all that is needed to express possibility or perform function is desire and intention. It is through intention and desire that everything is created and made to manifest.

What About Health and Disease?

In the current health-care model in which we find ourselves today, there is a backwards philosophy of treatment where the effects are attacked through chemical or surgical means. If there is a headache or fever, take an aspirin to make it go away. If we have nausea or diarrhea, take that pink stuff to make it go away. If we have allergies or a cough, take allergy or cough medicine -- you guessed it -- to make it go away. Do we ever ask the questions: Why are we experiencing these symptoms? What is the cause?

The problem with this model is that they are attempting to create a different effect altering a false cause. Bacteria and viruses are not the cause of disease. They are the effect of a weakened, susceptible environment, collectively; our body, thoughts, words and actions, or intentions.

Is the headache caused by a deficiency of aspirin, or the nausea caused by an absence of pink stuff? I think not. By changing the misrepresented cause, the effect will not change. Until your beliefs, thoughts, and intentions are in alignment with the natural laws and the principles of health, nothing you can say or do will bring that which you desire... health, happiness, prosperity and the fullest expression of who you are.

This principle, or law of cause and effect, is unwavering in its expression. Remember, for every effect a cause... and every cause an effect. The cause will always produce its effect and the effect will always be produced by its cause.

Taking medication with the sole purpose to make the symptom, or effect, go away is like blowing at the smoke to put out the fire. We are numbing the signal for change without acknowledging its purpose or cause.

Every symptom has a purpose. Fever destroys bacteria, viruses, and toxins; nausea and vomiting remove dangerous substances from our bodies; and pain alerts us to potential danger. If we were to maintain our automobile with this same mentality we would find ourselves quickly stuck on the side of the road.

What Is My Body Trying To Do?

In a vitalistic model of health-care, we ask a different question. What is my body trying to accomplish by manifesting this symptom and what can I do to support it?

We must accept responsibility and take the appropriate actions to cause our desired effect -- health and healing. Health and disease do not come by accident. They are definite effects of definite causes.

If we decide on the effects we desire in our lives, we can study and acquire the knowledge of what causes those effects, and take the appropriate actions based on this knowledge, then health is inevitable.

This is the first principle of healing. Every effect has a cause... and that cause always produces that effect. No exceptions.

If there is a condition, situation, or person in your life that is disagreeable or not exactly to your liking, some thought, word, or action was expressed in the past to bring about this effect. By acknowledging and accepting this fact, you now have the power to perceive (the first attribute of health) the cause that produced this effect, and then at that moment, begin to create a new thought, word, and/or action to create a new experience in the future. As motivational speaker Anthony Robbins advocated, "The past does not equal the future." (Awaken the Giant Within)

If we want to create health and healing (the effects) in our lives, we first must learn the causes. If we are to experience vibrant, abundant health in our lives, we must learn what thoughts, words, and actions we must take in order to create it in our lives.
