* THIS ISSUE'S ARTICLES *

Feeling Good, or Feeling Yucky?
by Lynn Grabhorn.

Nothing is more important than feeling good, and it doesn't matter beans how you do it. If standing on your head in Times Square will do it, terrific. If smelling newly cut wood will do it, grand. You know when you're there; you can't miss it.

Anger: Love It, Then Leave It
by Colin C. Tipping.

When we do not allow ourselves to experience emotions and suppress them instead, our souls create situations in which we are forced to feel them. That being the case, simply allowing ourselves to have the feeling might allow the energy to move through us and the so-called problem to disappear immediately.

Break On Through
by Deborah Tyler Blais.

We are all products of our environment, but I believe the cycle can stop with us. Just as addiction affects the whole family, so does recovery. Today, nearly everyone in my family is in recovery or on a spiritual path of some kind.

Dear Child
by Shari Rathman.

THIS ISSUE'S COLUMNS:

HOLISTIC POLITICS:
A Season of Hope -- and Battle
by Johann Christoph Arnold.

Psychologists, educators and church leaders have warned us about subversive and decadent influences on children in our society. In my books on parenting, I have pointed to these dangers and suggested that the greatest trap is not anger or abhorrence, but indifference.

MEDITATION:
Creating a Peaceful Mind
by Dagsay Tulku Rinpoche.

Buddhists believe that all our actions are dependent on our state of mind. A mind that is not well controlled is liable to cause a great deal of harm to itself and others, while a peaceful mind creates a comfortable atmosphere.

DEAR CHILD

 Dear Child,

Look around you. Lend a helping hand and do so not with expecting a reward bur rather out of love and appreciation of those around you.

Do not plan on solving others' problems for them. Simply assist them so that they may solve their own problems.

Lend an ear, a shoulder, a smile, a hand. In doing so you will receive as much pleasure as the person receiving your good deed.

All is well, Child of God.

INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE

     Attitude

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud mother-in-law of my best friend, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coiffed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.

Maurine Jones is the most lovely, gracious, dignified woman that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. While I have never aspired to attain her depth of wisdom, I do pray that I will learn from her vast experience.

After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room ... just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it ...

"It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my life. Old age is like a bank account ... you withdraw from what you've put in ... So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories."
