If you want to see the heroic, look at those

NEW ATTITUDES... NEW POSSIBILITIES

Welcome to the October 31st, 2004 edition of InnerSelf Magazine.

This week's articles focus on Competition, Stress, Feelings, Love as our True Nature, and also takes a look at the various religions of the world and their pearls of wisdom. As with all of our articles, our focus is on creating a better life for ourselves and a better world for all.

We encourage all American citizens to take responsibility for their current and future reality -- for the leadership of this country and for their part in the direction the country is headed. Please go vote this Tuesday. Last week's edition focused specifically on the elections and gave InnerSelf's endorsement for a presidential candidate (this is our personal choice and recommendation).

We who are striving to become "better people" need to express our preferences, our visions, our choices. We need to take part in creating the "greater reality" that is the United States and the world. Whatever your vision of "enlightened leadership", we urge you to vote this Tuesday. Participate in orienting the direction in which your country and the world is heading.

On Tuesday, please take some time to express your vision, your truth, and go vote. Remember, not voting is the same as supporting the candidate you would not have chosen. Take the time to look inside your Self and tune in to your inner guidance as to which candidates are closest to your vision of a better world, and go vote...

With love and best wishes
from our InnerSelf to yours...

* THIS ISSUE'S ARTICLES *

All In the Same Boat
by Brian Weiss, M.D.

For several hundred years, people have mistakenly believed that technology, once fully developed, would solve the ills of mankind -- illness, poverty, misery, and pain. We now know that technology and science alone are not capable of solving our problems. Only when used with enlightenment, wisdom, and balance can technology truly help us. We must find the right balance. Love is the fulcrum of this balance.

Competing for Life
by Paul Pearsall, Ph.D.

Competition has become so much a part of how we work, live, and love that it is difficult to consider a life not based upon it. We are so immersed in our toxic competition to be successful that those who are not driven by this obsession are seen as "out of it," not fully engaged in the game of life, or even cowardly. Most indigenous cultures like Hawaii are perplexed by the modern world competitiveness and seeming blindness to its negative effects.

Coping with Stress
by Mark Schwartz.

You have probably seen the cartoon sketch that depicts stress as "the overwhelming urge to choke the living #@*% out of someone who desperately deserves it". While that depiction may be true, it certainly is not the only form of stress. It seems that even though none of us likes stress, we have almost come to accept it as a fact of everyday life in these post 9/11 times. But it doesn't have to be that way. There are probably as many different ways to deal with stress as there are forms of stress.

Feelings Are Your Guide
by Susyn Reeve.

Our feelings are a foolproof guidance system, letting us know if we are experiencing heaven or hell, love or fear, well being or disease. This does not mean we are good people if we have "positive" feelings and bad people if we have "negative" feelings. Think of your body as an instrument, and just as musical instruments come in all sizes, shapes, and colors, so does our human instrument -- some on key and some off.

Is There A Buddha In You?
by Sarah Stillman.

What role has religion played in your life up until now? Most of us tend to adhere to the religion of our parents, but some choose to venture on their own spiritual paths. I'm not here to advocate any particular faith, but I do think it's important to have a defined set of religious beliefs.

DEAR CHILD

Dear Child,

Hope for peace.  Pray for peace.  But also take action to bring peace and harmony to your environment and to yourself.  For in doing so, like the pebble sending out ripples in the water, your change in attitude will affect others as well.

Turn off violence on TV.  Turn off violence on the news.  Turn off violence period.

Hope for peace.  Pray for peace.  But take action.

All is well, Child of God.

INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE

     And So It Is...

1. May every thought you think be etched in the sky for the whole world to see, for in fact it is.

2. May every deed you do recoil on top of your head, for in fact it will.

3. May every word you say be said as if the world was one big ear for everyone to hear, for in fact it is.

4. May every wish you wish for another be a wish that you wish for yourself, for in fact it is.
