NEW
ATTITUDES... NEW POSSIBILITIES |
|
Welcome to
the March 7th, 2004 edition of InnerSelf Magazine.
We are
fortunate that the only thing we need to change our lives is something we
already have -- ourselves. We do not need a new job, a new relationship, or
anything else -- the only "new thing" that we may need is a new attitude,
since with a change in attitude and expectations come new possibilities and
a new life.
We do not
even need what many of us feel we are lacking -- extra time. We only need
the present moment -- that moment right now when we can choose to be aware,
to pay attention to the internal messages, as well as the external.
We already
have what we need to live a life of bliss -- we simply need to open up, let
go of the past, be mindful of the present, and listen to our inner voice...
and all this is done simply in the "now". It does not require any fancy
gadgets or even "enlightened teachers". As we listen to the words of wisdom
around us (and read the words of wisdom in these articles), it reminds us to
listen to the words of guidance and wisdom of our own inner teacher.
With love
and best wishes from our InnerSelf to yours...

Hanging On to Old Values?
by Dan Joseph.
If I'm having difficulty opening my mind to a new perspective, I often find
it helpful to look at how much value I'm placing on my old ways of seeing.
Sometimes we invest very heavily in our old perspectives, without even
knowing it. On one level, we want our minds to be healed. We want to be at
peace. But on another level, we're frightened of what will happen if we
release our own, personal perspectives.
Trusting What You Feel
by Julie Tallard Johnson.
When
I was a teenager, I began to notice that I was often aware of things that
were hidden under the surface of my everyday interactions with other people.
I had a strong sense of what others were feeling; I seemed to know a lot
more about what was going on around me than people were telling me. I often
had psychic dreams -- dreams that gave me more insight into what was
happening in my life.
Martial Arts as a Way of Life
by F.J. Chu.
The
wisdom and knowledge that the martial arts offer is something that should be
preserved in modern society. The Asian intellectual heritage embraces the
whole cycle of life that most of Western psychology has studiously avoided.
The practitioner who views his training as merely a means of self-defense
will eventually realize that his efforts are unrewarding. The martial Way is
nothing less than self-cultivation and the promotion of virtuous conduct.
Steps to Inner Healing
by Dan Joseph.
There is a three-step process of inner healing that I have found to be very
helpful in my life. Although it is a simple process, it can be powerful.
Although those three steps are simple in theory, they are not always easy to
practice. However, I find that they can produce very tangible results.
Thinking: Good or Bad?
by Andrew Weiss.
When
most of us are introduced to the practice of meditation and mindfulness,
usually our opinion is that thinking is bad. After all, we reason, our
thinking and ideas have become a layer between the present moment and
ourselves. Our mind has convinced us that we are isolated. At least, that is
how we often perceive the situation.

DEAR
CHILD
|
|
Dear Child,
Breathe in deeply.
Breathe in hope. Breathe in peace. Breathe in brotherhood.
Realize that everyone on the planet breathes just as you do. Are you better
or less than the next person who breathes just as you do?
What if everyone decided to breathe in the concept of peace and exhaled the
thoughts of judgment and hate? Take that breath for peace. Hold
the thought that one by one we can change the misconceptions that we are all
different.
Two arms, two legs, one mind, one heart. We are all the same if only
we will let ourselves be.
All is well,
Child of God.

INSPIRATIONAL
MESSAGE

Falling in
Love with Yourself
When you fall in love with yourself, you begin to feel
the positive self-esteem that comes when we don't deflate ourselves. You're
ready to take yourself out for tea or to that wonderful spa for a day, or to
go back and play the piano, which you always wanted to do. You're ready to
recognize all the tools of wisdom that you have to offer. You're ready to
recognize that you have an Enchanted Self that deserves to be part of your
every day.
When you love yourself, you know when you need help.
You know when you need guidance. It isn't a narcissistic love where you feel
that you are perfect. It's a love of yourself, as you would love a child. If
the child is ill, you take the child to the doctor. If the child comes home
with a good paper from school, you put it on the refrigerator. It's a
self-acknowledgment that makes you viable, real, and whole.
Now you've become really ready to see the story of
your life in a positive light. Even the disappointments, even tragedies have
served only to hone you like tempered steel. You've been through the battles
and have emerged stronger. You're in charge of your own self, a most
wonderful feeling!
