Otherwise, what is the use of seeing?"

NEW
ATTITUDES... NEW POSSIBILITIES |
|
Welcome to
the October 3rd, 2004 edition of InnerSelf Magazine.
The month of
October is already with us... Here in Pennsylvania, the fall colors are
starting to come out in their full splendor, and the floods that were
brought about by hurricane Ivan's passing are receding... In Florida, the
winds are calming down and people are breathing sighs of relief... In
Washington state, Mount St. Helens is grumbling and people are awaiting the
outer expression of her inner rumblings... The planet is making herself be
seen and heard.
Autumn is a
time for reflection, a time for harvesting what we have sown, a time to
prepare for winter. We invite you to reflect upon the state of your world...
your personal world -- the one that centers around you, your family, your
work, your friends -- and also to reflect upon the world at large -- the one
that is affected by the decisions we make here in the United States of
America.
In the USA,
we prepare for a presidential election. The USA has been seen by many as a
role-model for the world, as a "shining light" to be looked up to, as
reflected by the Statue of Liberty... Let us do our part to make sure that
the light of truth and hope is not extinguished in the eyes of the few and
the many around the world... Let us take our place in choosing the direction
this country takes and ensuring that it is a direction that we all can be
proud of... As a people united in truth and justice for all.
With love
and best wishes
from our InnerSelf to yours...

* THIS ISSUE'S ARTICLES *
Beautify
the World
by Marie T. Russell.
It's
so easy to complain. We all do it at times, some of us more than others. We
all have various and sometimes numerous reasons to complain. Some of them
are within our power to change, and others not. We complain about our job,
our health, the weather, our neighbors, our kids, our families, our
government, the environment, the state of the world...
Believe In
Your Dreams
by Howard "H" White.
If
I told you that there was just one thing you could do that would give you
everything you want, would you do it? Well, all you have to do is believe!
All that matters is that you can see what you want and believe in it with
all your heart and soul. Few people believe that strongly and still fewer
work hard enough for their beliefs to reach fruition.
Dealing with Anger, Hatred, Guilt...
by Mark Schwartz.
Let's
face it, we all get angry from time to time. Anger is a common human
emotion. Yet, eventually you have to let go of your anger and go on with
your life. Don't dwell on the events or circumstances that invoked your
anger. Instead try and learn from these experiences so that you may be able
to avoid them or at least deal with them better in the future.
If Not
Me, Who? If Not Now, When?
by Robert Rabbin.
We
cannot be afraid to put our spiritual hands into the earth of politics. We
cannot use our spiritual life as a shield from social life and
responsibility. Mahatma Gandhi said, "I do not believe that the
spiritual law works on a field of its own. On the contrary, it expresses
itself only through the ordinary activities of life. It thus affects the
economic, the social, and the political fields."
It's Now or Never
by Ric Giardina.
If
you have any hope of making changes to the way you are living your life then
you will have to start taking a close look at what you are actually doing at
the present time. This will require a new level of mindfulness about your
thought processes, your choices and decisions, and your actions and
activities.

DEAR
CHILD
|
|
Dear Child,
Celebrate all your successes. Pat yourself on
the back for all the jobs well done! Smile!
Celebrate all your less than perfect successes. Pat yourself on the
back for all the jobs you have completed! Smile!
Celebrate all your non-successes. Pat yourself on the back because you
tried! Smile!
All is well,
Child of God.

INSPIRATIONAL
MESSAGE
|

Have You
Given Up On Yourself?
Have you given up on yourself? Have you decided to
take the easy road and coast for the rest of your life? Have you come to
the decision that you have done all you could possibly be expected to do
in your life now it is someone else's turn?
As you get older you may not be able to run as fast,
swim as far, hit the ball as hard or even concentrate as long as you
used to but is that the reason to give up? Surely your aim should be to
be the best you can at whatever age you are.
Just to show you how amazing the human mind is:
The following text gives a good insight into the way your mind works. It
may appear a bit difficult at first but please stick with it. Don't give
up on yourself.
I cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was r'dnig!
THE PAOMNNEHAL PWEOR OF THE HMUAN MNID
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mtt'r in
waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht
the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pcl'. The rset can be a taotl
mses and you can sitll r'd it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuse' the
huamn mnid deos not r'd ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
Amzanig huh? (Unfortunately we do not have the
originating site.)
Your mind does have phenomenal power. If you start with the thought to
be the best you can possibly be and continually follow it with sincere
action you may get a bit jumbled up from time to time but it will always
see you through. There may be some unintended consequences but to have
an enjoyable and rewarding life the aim must always be; to get the best
out of yourself.
The point is don't give up on yourself. Be the best you can now, at
whatever age you are.
