NEW
ATTITUDES... NEW POSSIBILITIES |
|
Welcome to
the September 26th, 2004 edition of InnerSelf Magazine.
We're back,
after a hiatus of two months... We've been taking time-out to recharge, to
simply "be", while also continuing with the daily tasks of "earning a
living" and "living life", and reassessing goals and priorities.
This is the
first week of Autumn... In Pennsylvania, the sun is shining brightly, and
the leaves are undergoing their colorful transformation. They are great
role-models in simply letting go and trusting life. Trusting that even as
everything seems to be falling apart, a transformation is taking place.
Trusting that even as everything seems to be dying and decaying, that life
is continuing and a rebirth underway.
We, at
InnerSelf, have gone through a rebirth of sorts... and continue to do so
everyday. Starting with the next issue, as we approach the 2004 United
States elections on November 2nd, we will reflect on the "political aspect"
of our reality. It is important for us to realize that the reality we
individually create includes the world around us... Thus, exercising our
"right" to vote -- our ability to select our representatives in Congress and
in the Senate, as well as our president and vice-president -- is an integral
part of creating the world we want for ourselves, our children, and
generations to come.
We encourage
you, whatever your political affiliations (if any), to get involved in the
election process. Encourage the people around you to vote, discuss the
issues that are dear to you, make your innermost thoughts and desires be
heard and be counted.
We do make a
difference if we choose to. We can adapt the often quoted: "Many are called.
Few are chosen." We can translate that into: "Many are called. Few are
choosing." Let's change that starting with ourselves so that it becomes:
Many are called. Many are choosing to make a difference." You are
being called right now. The world is calling. People are crying, people are
dying -- not only in Iraq but right here at home.
We can make a
difference. We first have to make the choice to make a difference, and then
follow the call of our heart, of our spirit, as to how we can take our place
in the puzzle of life, creating a world that cares, and creating a country
with goals and visions and actions that we can all be proud of.
With love
and best wishes
from our InnerSelf to yours...

Calling Great Spirit (Calling God)
by Chief Noble Red Man (Mathew King)
I
walk with the Great Spirit, with God. I talk to Him. The Great Spirit guides
me in my life. Wakan-Tanka, that's what we call him in Lakota. You can call
Wakan-Tanka by any name you like. In English I call Him God or the Great
Spirit. So call Wakan-Tanka whatever you like. Just be sure to call Him. He
wants to talk to you.
Finding the Gifts
by Marie T. Russell.
I
am approaching my 50th birthday. Though part of me cannot quite grasp that
concept (what! me, fifty? impossible!), the other part is looking forward to
that day as a rite of passage, as a milestone in my life. Just as 13 years
of age marks adolescence, 21 marks adulthood (at least officially), 50 seems
to me to herald a reaching of maturity... a certain "je ne sais quoi" of "I've
done it!" "I've made it through my 20s, 30s and 40s...
Getting to Yes
by Martin Lowenthal.
When
we do not acknowledge our feelings, we may reactively eat for comfort. Not
facing tensions in a relationship can lead to fear of arguments or anger at
disagreements. Seeking escape from the discomforts of life may trap us in
patterns of drinking, drugs, or compulsive sexual activity. The task is not
to rid ourselves of those parts that produce painful feelings and
undesirable behaviors -- but rather notice how we make ourselves unhappy and
get stuck in reactive habits.
Is Your Life Run by "Should"?
by Maggie Craddock.
The
bummer about "shoulds" is that when we are dominated by them, we are also
dominated by the fear of being rejected or abandoned in some way, because
that's the core emotional fear that activates many of them. These ongoing
fears leave many of us drained and exhausted.

DEAR
CHILD
|
|
Dear Child,
Honor all those
around you. Show respect to all those around you.
To bring harmony to the planet, you must honor and respect yourself and all
others as well.
Know that by spreading honor and respect to all others, you can make a
difference in the world.
All is well,
Child of God.

INSPIRATIONAL
MESSAGE
|
|
Every
morning...
Every morning I excitedly get out of bed. Just
a few minutes of goals and visions for the day swirl in my head.
No lingering for me, no alarm, no wishful notes too. Just me in my
night gown with no hat.
I sit down to enter my dreams and what can notes. In my journal
entries that began long ago with a tiny book and its lock and key.
I used to dwell on all the icky things back then but now I write God
with my cheers and glees instead.
I remember the days I knew not whether I was going to live or die.
I also never thought I'd see why cancer came by. I'm glad I had
cancer because today I like the who I've become. Which would have
never occurred had it not appeared.
If I dwell, I can remember the day of an accident that left me in a
wheel chair for years. Because I know if I do, today there will be
a lot of have nots and heart of tears too.
As a coach I've been trained to be in the present moment with me.
Thank goodness for apple trees. For if it had not been for growing
things fresh air would not have been. And I would not be able to
enjoy breathing it all in.
Next I write wisdom, only wisdom that I can share. I know that
someone will be here and be inspired because I'd cared. I travel
through my day with a soul of glee. Knowing, really knowing, this
is the right place for me to be. The excitement occurs when I pick
up my pen and get the surprise of how far its all come.
I know there were days long ago when I dreaded my day. I'm glad,
I'm glad, there aren't none of them anymore. For when their
inklings first appear, I now have the training and support to make them
disappear. Coaching made me work so that I can appear.
When I crawl under the covers at night, I smile with prayer at the
difference I made in everyone's life this day. Just because I was
there. Before I drift off to sleep my sugar plums swirl with what
next I can do with my pen. I nod off to sleep, gracefully and
slow, lingering on the stories yet to be told.
Occasionally there is a 2 am up. Just because what was swirling
before needs to be said. So I honor the time with my pen and then
its back to la-la-land I go. I'm so glad of my passion, my life.
It allows everything to be said. After my last eye lid shutters,
my last thought is tomorrow's putter.
