NEW
ATTITUDES... NEW POSSIBILITIES |
|
Welcome to
the July 25th, 2004 edition of InnerSelf Magazine.
Choices...
Life is composed of choices. Each moment is a choice. What we think, what we
feel, what we say, what we do... If we feel we are not in control of our
life, we need to remind ourselves that every action we take is our choice...
Yes, even going to a job that we dislike is our choice... Even staying in an
unhappy marriage is a choice... As is making changes...
We have many
tools to help us in these daily choices... The first and foremost is our
intuition, or higher guidance, combined with the power of our rational mind.
What we may find is that living a simple, uncluttered life helps us be clear
about what our guidance is saying to us. We also need to learn to slow down
so that we are "at the right place at the right time".
This week's
articles assist us with these goals...helping clear the way for a life that
is filled with purpose and joy.
With love
and best wishes
from our InnerSelf to yours...

Daily Zen -- Ordinary Mind
by Katsuki Sekida.
In ordinary daily life our consciousness works ceaselessly to protect and
maintain our interests. This way of looking at things is the origin of our
distorted view of the world. Zen aims at overthrowing this distorted view of
the world.Z en is not, in my view, philosophy or mysticism. It is simply a
practice of readjustment of nervous activity. That is, it restores the
distorted nervous system to its normal functioning.
Freeing Ourselves from Clutter
by Katherine Gibson.
When
we consciously choose what graces our environment, it will harmonize with
our inner journey. Our home will be welcoming, restful, and intensely
personal. Rather than mimicking an interior design magazine, each book on
the shelf, every painting on the wall, and even the decorations we use at
Christmas will reflect who we are and what matters most. With less to clean
and mend, we can focus on pursuits that add dimension to our purpose in life
and enrich our spiritual, social, physical, and mental experiences.
I Am a Faithful Agnostic
by Joseph S. Willis.
A
paradox is a statement that seems to say opposite things: 'She was strong
because of her weakness.' Life is full of paradoxes. Sometimes when I am
asked what my theological position is, I often -- and paradoxically -- call
myself a faithful agnostic. I say it quite seriously, though I enjoy the
consternation it sometimes produces. The agnostic does not know whether God
exists or if prayer does any good or if God has a plan. In fact, what she
knows is that she does not know.
Intuitive Guidance
by J. Donald Walters.
Balance
is needed between intellect and intuition. The rational mind can only point
to probable solutions. Intuition will supply you with clear answers. The
rational mind, with its focus on differences, is essentially
problem-oriented. The superconscious, with its broader, more unitive view,
is solution-oriented. Superconscious living means to trust one's life to the
flow of a higher wisdom.
Life Is Not a Race
by Jon Gordon, M.A.
Before
I met my wife I was always rushing; rushing to get to the store, rushing to
reach my goals, rushing through life hoping to get there faster. Like a car
in cruise control, my wife goes at her own steady pace. While I used to view
her way as slow and unproductive, I grew to realize that she knew a secret
that I didn't. Instead of letting society and other people, including me,
rush her, she dictated her own pace.

DEAR
CHILD
|
|
Dear Child,
When in doubt,
hold the thought of peace.
When in doubt, hold the thought of love.
When in doubt, hold the thought of forgiveness.
When in doubt, hold the thought of harmony.
When in doubt, know that all is well.
All is well,
Child of God.

MESSAGE

Change of
Plans...
We often accept second best because we have come to
accept it as the norm. Often, at some stage in our lives we have had the
experience of someone important to us constantly criticizing our
actions, giving us their opinion of where we were going wrong or judging
the way we look, behave or speak. The result is that we have come to
accept these projections as true and embrace them as our natural
behavior.
Do you have an inner voice that says what you: ought, should, must do?
Or does your voice constantly criticize you and tell you that you are
not good enough, who do you think you are, that wont work etc.
Instead of accepting the labels others have given you and you have
attached to yourself listen to and accept your strengths, be open to the
opportunities that come your way. In a phrase: BE OPEN TO CHANGING YOUR
PLANS.
It's OK to change your plan. I doesn't matter how many people you have
told. In our experience; finding your true potential cannot be found by
following the advice of others. Neither can it be found by watching and
copying the behaviors of others. The answer is in you. Listen to your
strengths, be open to the opportunities that come your way.
