Welcome to
the July 4th, 2004 edition of InnerSelf Magazine.
On this
weekend where we traditionally celebrate freedom, we take a look at "inner
freedoms" -- freedom from guilt, shame, freedom from our innermost fears.
Fear of dying, fear of aging, and fear of life itself can be stumbling
blocks on our road to self-realization.
We present you
with some healing modalities to transcend the limitations -- whether these
limitations are imposed by society or self- imposed -- to our ultimate
fulfillment. We can all ultimately radiate the innate love, joy, and divinity
that resides in the center of our being.
With love
and best wishes
from our InnerSelf to yours...

* THIS ISSUE'S ARTICLES *
Desiring Happiness
by Daisaku Ikeda.
We
all desire happiness, and yet happiness seems to be just beyond our reach.
However many "how to be happy" books might appear, human beings are still
largely beset by the same problems as their ancestors. The poor seek wealth,
the sick yearn to be healthy, those suffering from domestic strife crave
harmony, and so on. Even if we secure wealth, health and a happy home life,
we find ourselves confronted by problems in other areas.
Facing Fears -- Life, Death, Aging...
by Denise Linn.
Each
fear is like a small sub-personality inside of you demanding to be heard.
One "fear-being" might chatter, "Don't go outside. It's raining. You'll
catch a cold." Another might be whimpering in your ear, "Don't fall in love.
You know you'll get hurt!" We hold our fears captive and even justify them,
declaring, "That's just who I am." Remember this: you have fears ... but you
are not fear.
Guilt, Shame, Ecstasy
by Georg Feuerstein,Ph.D.
Everyone
has experienced guilt at one time or another. In fact, millions of people
are burdened by feelings of guilt of all sorts, especially sexual guilt. But
what is guilt? What, in particular, is sexual guilt? Where does it come
from? How does it differ from shame? What is the effect of guilt on us? Can
we ever completely rid ourselves of guilt? Should we even attempt do so?
Healing Sexual Energies
by Michelle Rios Rice Hennelly &
R. Kevin Hennelly.
It
is time for us to rethink our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors about the
use we make of our sexual energies. How and with whom we use these energies
are among the most important decisions we shall ever make in life. The
consequences are immediate for the entire gamut of life lived, from the
physical to the subtler mental and emotional levels we inhabit, to whatever
higher-mindedness we may aspire toward, whether ethical, philosophical, or
spiritual...
Six Healing Sounds
by Mantak Chia.
For
optimal health, you must learn how to take care of yourself; you must learn
how to clear out your negative energy and transform it to positive healthy
energy. Maintaining yourself in this way will surely enhance any other
therapy you are receiving. The Six Healing Sounds practice is a simple yet
powerful tool to promote physical, energetic, and emotional healing and
balance.
