NEW
ATTITUDES... NEW POSSIBILITIES |
|
Welcome to
the January 25th, 2004, edition of InnerSelf Magazine.
In this
issue, we take a look behind the many masks that we wear... Behind the "shoulds",
the unspoken fears, and the hidden darkness and shadows.
The world
"out there" is a mirror of the world "in here"... To be able to effect a
change "out there", we need to look within and acknowledge our own darkness.
Cast not the first stone, unless you have not "sinned"...
To create a
better world, we first need to take a look at the things we have hidden and
then have projected onto others... Learning to acknowledge our shadow or
"dark side", allows us to heal and move forward into the Light of our
Being...
We bring you
this week's articles acknowledging that while we are all "perfect and divine
children of the One", we also are a manifestation of the balance of day and
night, light and dark, joy and sadness, hope and despair... and moving on to
expressing love for self and for others...
With love
and best wishes from our InnerSelf to yours...

* THIS ISSUE'S ARTICLES *
Balanced Approach to Healing
by Ron Roth, Ph.D.
Formulas
are fine for solving math problems or for figuring out the stress factors in
steel beams, but they don't help very much when it comes to healing and
prayer. In most cases, you would do better to follow a creative amalgam of
common sense, intuition, and balance.
Facing
Aging & Mortality
by Steven D. Farmer, Ph.D.
In
our youth-obsessed culture, the advancing specter of growing old becomes
something to be tirelessly avoided. What's usually overlooked is the
tremendous storehouse of knowledge and wisdom that we've accumulated, the
gifts we can give to subsequent generations.
Facing Your Shadow
by Denise Linn.
As
a child, I was afraid of so many things. I was terrified during my parents'
violent arguments. I was afraid of my mother's rage and my father's
simmering undercurrents. My childhood was defined by my fears. As I grew up,
I suppressed fear and denied its existence. But it shaped my life in
hundreds of ways.
Imprisoned Splendor
by John Randolph Price.
Between
2500 and 1500 B.C., Hermes Trismegistus, the "scribe of the gods," came on
the world stage to tell about the Spirit of the Divine within. In his
writings, he implores humanity to "rise from your sleep of ignorance" and to
find the Light.
Is There A Limit to Tolerance?
by Joseph S. Willis.
We
who value tolerance sometimes behave as if we think tolerance is the cure
for all the ills of society. But what if your next-door neighbors come from
a part of the world where their homeland custom demands that the man beat
his wife if she does not obey him quickly enough?

DEAR
CHILD
|
|
Dear Child,
When you are sad,
know that the rich rainbow of emotional feelings includes sadness. Feel the
sadness and release it.
When you are
angry, acknowledge your anger. Feel how it makes your body feel. Feel the
anger and then release it -- not at someone but rather out into the universe
to a higher plane where it can safely disappear.
Enjoy your
emotions both those considered "positive" or "negative" and the texture that
they add to your life but do not let them control you.
All is well,
Child of God.

INSPIRATIONAL
MESSAGE
|
|
Thank You,
My Friend...
A friend is someone we turn to
When our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure
For our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives
With beauty, joy, and grace.
And makes the world we
live in
A better and happier
place.
There is a miracle called friendship,
That dwells in the heart,
You do not know how it happens ... or...
When it gets its start
But you know the special lift it always brings ...
You realize that friendship is God's most precious gift!
