Ask And
Receive
by Susan de Montfort
It has been dramatically revealed
to me time after time that the Biblical pronouncement of "Ask and Ye Shall
Receive" is a veritable truism. It only needs a deep-seated belief and a fervent
affirmation to successfully execute it.
Steps To Take
Why does it work? Perhaps no one
will ever be able to prove why in purely scientific terms, but the proof, as
they say, is in the pudding. First believe it is possible. Then ask for it. Then
receive it. The results are usually quick in forthcoming, but if you have to
wait some time for what you want, there is always an underlying reason for the
wait that you may not be cognizant of when you ask. Be patient, for in the grand
scheme of things, it is sometimes better we don't get what we want when we think
we want it, or never get it at all.
I have found in my own asking that
I must be pure of heart and completely clear in what I ask. If I don't ring
true, the results are often unsatisfactory, or nonexistent. But when I know what
I want and throw it out to the
universe with a resounding spirit, the results can be miraculous.
A Ticket To
Ride
A perfect example occurred
recently which served to further strengthen the faith of my conviction. I had
wanted to attend a Shirley MacLaine
event only to discover the performances were sold out. In a cosmic orchestration
of event, Debe, a girlfriend I had not spoken to in some time, called me. In the
course of our conversation, she mentioned that she was going to see the Shirley
MacLaine show that night with three of her girlfriends. I told her about my
desire to see the show also, and I then made a pledge that I would meditate on
being one of the foursome, but ONLY if something better were to happen to
prevent one of them from
going.
Later in the day I got a message
at work telling me to return Debe's call ASAP. "Susan... you must be a witch!"
she screamed. "One of the girls just canceled the show for tonight. She isn't
feeling well."
"But that wasn't part of the
deal," I replied, feeling excited but disturbed at the same time. "I only
wanted..." 'Wait, I'm not finished," she interrupted. "The ticket was a birthday
present from my friend, Sandy, who has season tickets, and she didn't want to
hurt Sandy's feelings by saying she didn't really want to see the MacLaine show
as much as she wanted to see another one playing later in the season. So they
switched and now everyone is happy.
There Are No
Accidents
So I went. It was one of those
nights that was truly meant to be, not only for seeing Ms. MacLaine (with whom I
share many beliefs and experiences), but also meeting Sandy for the first time.
During dinner, I divulged that I had just finished writing a spiritual book
called "Feather in the Desert". Sandy shared that she had just met a
woman who published women's spiritual books. The woman's name was Brenda Star.
It so happens that I had instituted a nightly ritual during my walks of making a
wish on the first star I saw, and the wish that night had been to get my book
published.
I also had been drawing stars in
my daily journal. Subsequently, Sandy provided me with an introduction to Brenda
Star, and I am now on my way to being published!
