So many of us (dare I say all of us?) are
"so busy"... We oftentimes are too busy to
take time for ourselves, time to meditate,
time to relax, time to nurture ourselves. Joan
Borysenko does not advocate that we leave
everything and move into a cave. Rather she
gives us practical tools to use in our
stressed busy lives.
Joan
Borysenko's new book "Inner Peace for Busy People" is perfect for those
of us who don't have time... The book presents 52 strategies for
transforming your life. So if you're "real busy" you can read one
strategy a week for the course of the year. Or you can do like I do,
keep the book in the "little girls' room", and read one "installment" on
each visit. (Now you know my secret of getting so many things read. I
read a few paragraphs or a page or two every time I go to the bathroom.
Sound silly? Maybe, but it works for me... and it gives me short little
reading breaks throughout the day.)
The
strategies presented are divided in six sections:
1. The
Absolute Basic Strategies for Life
(which include Relax and Be More Productive; Practice Patience; and
more...)
2.
Strategies for Taking Care of Yourself
(Be a Better Juggler; Ask for Help; and more...)
3.
Strategies for Changing Your Relationship to Time
(Give Up Perfectionism; Choose Wisely: Time or Things; and more...)
4.
Strategies for Managing Your Mind
(Try Power Whining;
What, Me
Meditate; and more...)
5.
Strategies for Developing Compassion, Kindness, and Clear
Communication
(Guard Against Gossip; Watch Those Assumptions; and more...)
6.
Strategies for Creating Wisdom and Purpose in Your Life
(Find Meaning in Your Life; Get Your Priorities in Order; and more...)
I greatly
enjoy Joan Borysenko's writing style. It is not coated with
psychological jargon and heady terms. It is simple, direct, and to the
heart. I greatly recommend this book as a tool for creating a better
life...
It is a book
to read through once, and then reread bit and pieces to remind you and
reconnect you with the inner peace you seek. A good "one message a day"
or "focus for the week" type of book. Joan helps us laugh at ourselves,
and see the forest as well as the trees.
